Bedtime Book for Parents

6 May

I stumbled across this little gem today while surfing through one of my favorite blogs, A Cup of Jo. The fact that it took this long for an author to get something like this published (at least that I’ve seen) is kind of amazing, considering the title of this book is something that I’m sure every single parent has thought at one point or another.

From Amazon: “Go the F*** to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach’s verses perfectly capture the familiar–and unspoken–tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity.”

Based on the description, I already love it. I’ve done enough babysitting in my life to know that children are HARD, and anyone who says otherwise is full of it. It’s refreshing to see that a book like this — a book that is a bit honest — is out there. For $8, I may be adding this to my list of go-to gifts for my new-parent friends. Well, at least the ones with a good sense of humor!
