Weekend Roundup

28 Mar

This past weekend was a fun one in the PM household. My dad was in town from D.C. for a visit and as usual, we did a lot of eating and relaxing (with a tiny bit of work in between). We hit up favorites like Hub 51, Sweet Mandy B’s, Coobah and Joy’s Noodles, video chatted with my brother, and took in a few flicks while hiding from the frigid “Spring” weather. Pretty sure I’m 5 lbs heavier, but it was all worth it ๐Ÿ™‚

The first movie we saw was Black Swan. There has been so much hype, so we all felt like we had to see it. But I have to say, it was not a pleasant experience. I wanted to vom about 15 minutes into it, and the sick feeling didn’t go away until about 2 hours after the movie was over. It was incredibly disturbing (not to mention confusing) and I was physically uncomfortable for the majority of it. However, like the rest of the world has been saying, it was beautifully art directed and I support Natalie Portman’s Oscar win. But acting aside, the fact that she was able to learn to dance like she did is amazing.

Later the in the evening on Saturday we watched The Fighter. It was also very well done, and Melissa Leo’s transformation into a working class, chain-smoking, overbearing Irish Catholic mother was pretty amazing. Christian Bale’s transformation was also pretty crazy. He lost SO MUCH weight he was borderline unrecognizable. Overall, it was a much more enjoyable experience than Black Swan, but I don’t think it was as fabulous as the critics were saying (though the husband would disagree).

Our final movie of the weekend was Conviction, the Hollywood version of a true story of a man who was wrongly accused of murdering an old lady and was imprisoned for 16 years. He had an incredibly close relationship with his sister, who ended up putting herself through high school, college & law school in order to overturn the system and prove his innocence – which she ultimately did. It was very good, but predictable.

We also finished up the birth announcement for the adorable baby Dubey, who was born last week! My first very close friend to have a baby and she’s so far away ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I can’t wait to visit! We are keeping the whole family in our thoughts and are LOVING all the photos – so keep ’em coming mama Chelly! And keep the honest, raw stories coming too. Remind me that I’m not ready for a tattoo yet ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next up on the freelance front was the Save the Date we did for our good friend Kat & her future hub Babak. I won’t blow the big secret, but I’ll definitely post it once it’s gone out in the mail because it’s AWESOME. It’s heading off to the printer tomorrow and I’m stoked! I’m constantly in awe of the husbands talents, and this time it was no different!

Happy Monday!
